Welcome Movie Copied From Hollywood Flick Mickey Blue Eyes
Bollywood continues to get inspired from Hollywood. Now, one more rehash of a Hollywood romantic comedy is around the corner.
The film is Firoz Nadiadwala’s romcom with Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and Nana Patekar in main roles. The movie’s story is inspired from director Kelly Makin’s 1999 flick ‘Mickey Blue Eyes’ that starred Hugh Grant, Jeanne Tripplehorn and James Caan.
The director doesn’t deny that his film ‘Welcome’ is inspired from ‘Mickey Blue Eyes’ but says it is not an outright copy.
In Bazmee’s words the situations between the two films could be similar, but their setting is totally different.
Anyway, it is better that you decide. Here are similarities between the two films.
‘Mickey Blue Eyes’ tells the story of Michael (Hugh Grant) who falls in love with Gina (Jeanne Tripplehorn). But there is a huge problem. Gina comes from a family involved in mafia crimes. She fears that Michael too will be sucked into the crime world. But Michael assures her. However, just after their engagement the groom-to-be gets unwillingly involved into a scam.
‘Welcome’ has Akshay Kumar playing Rajiv, a simple guy who falls for Sanjana (Katrina Kaif), whose brother Uday (Nana Patekar) is a dreaded don with mafia connections. Soon, the reality of Sanjana’s family is revealed to Rajiv who has no option but to follow his heart, even if it means dealing with gangsters.
